What Is Blackjack?

A card game that blends skill, strategy and a touch of luck

Blackjack, also known as "21", is one of the most popular card games in casinos worldwide – and it is quickly gaining a strong following among Malaysian players. At mari8888, we make sure your Blackjack experience is second to none — a safe, fair, and entertaining environment every time you play.

The core concept is straightforward: get a hand value higher than the dealer's without going over 21. Numbered cards are worth their face value, face cards (Jack, Queen, King) are worth 10, and an Ace can be worth either 1 or 11 depending on the situation. Simple as it sounds, there are deep layers of strategy that make Blackjack such a compelling and rewarding challenge.

At mari8888, we offer over 30 Blackjack tables – from standard tables for beginners to premium VIP tables with high betting limits. All tables are run by professionally trained dealers and broadcast live in HD quality. You can interact with the dealer through the live chat function, making the experience feel just like sitting at a real casino.

Basic Blackjack Rules

Get the basics down before you sit at the table

Game Objective

Get your hand total closer to 21 than the dealer's — without going over. Exceeding 21 means you "bust" and lose the round instantly.

Hit or Stand

Hit means requesting an additional card. Stand means standing pat with your current hand value. This decision is at the heart of Blackjack strategy.

Double Down & Split

Double Down: double your bet and receive exactly one more card. Split: split two cards of equal value into two separate hands.

Natural Blackjack

Landing an Ace and a 10-value card on your first two cards gives you a "Natural Blackjack", which typically pays 3:2 — the best payout in the game.

Insurance

If the dealer shows an Ace, you can purchase "insurance" for half your original bet as a safeguard against the dealer hitting Blackjack.

Surrender

Some variants allow a "surrender" option — fold early and recover half your bet when your hand looks weak against the dealer's card.

Payouts

Regular wins pay 1:1. A natural Blackjack pays 3:2. A tie (push) means your bet is returned with no gain or loss.

Play Together

Up to 7 players can sit at a single table at the same time. Each player competes independently against the dealer, not against one another.

Blackjack Basic Strategy Chart

A simple guide to smarter decisions at the table

Basic Blackjack strategy is a mathematically optimised set of decisions that reduces the house edge to under 1%. Use the table below as a general guide based on your hand value and the dealer's face-up card:

Your Hand Value Dealer's Card: 2–6 Dealer's Card: 7–9 Dealer Cards: 10/A
8 or under Hit Hit Hit
9 Double Hit Hit
10 Double Double Hit
11 Double Double Double
12 Stand Hit Hit
13–16 Stand Hit Hit
17 and above Stand Stand Stand

The table above is a general guide. Different variants may have additional rules that affect the optimal strategy.

Blackjack Winning Tips at mari8888

Practical tips from seasoned players

1
Master Basic Strategy First

Don't rely purely on instinct. Memorise the basic strategy chart and practise it in free mode before wagering real money. mari8888 offers a practice mode for this purpose.

2
Set a Daily Budget Limit

Decide how much MYR you're willing to stake before you start playing. This not only protects your bankroll but also helps you play with a clearer head and better judgment.

3
Choose Tables with a Higher RTP

Not all Blackjack tables are created equal. Look for variants that pay Blackjack at 3:2 rather than 6:5. This seemingly small difference has a significant impact on your long-term returns at mari8888.

4
Don't Always Buy Insurance

Insurance bets can seem tempting, but statistically they don't pay off in the long run. Unless you're counting cards, you're better off saving that money for your main bet.

5
Make the Most of mari8888 Bonuses

New member mari8888 are eligible for a welcome bonus of up to RM 1,000. Use this bonus credit to practise and get comfortable at the Blackjack tables without taking on too much risk early on.

6
Take a Break When You Need To

Playing while tired or in a negative headspace is one of the leading causes of poor decisions. mari8888 encourages responsible gaming – stop whenever you feel you need to.
